iPhone and Star Wars enthusiasts have been able to play the Star Wars: Trench Rungame for the past couple of months. If you've been on the fence about picking this game up, or if you just don't happen to have an iPhone, StarWars.com has come to your rescue. The boys over at Infrared5 have ported over their iPhone game to be playable on the main Star Wars site. Best of all: It's FREE. Not only that, they've improved the game, fixing many of the initial bugs gamers had issues with.
The game focuses on the pivotal Battle of Yavin from Star Wars: A New Hope. Putting you in the cockpit of the iconic X-wing, you'll have to fly around the Death Star, avoiding turret towers while taking down scores of seemingly endless TIE fighters. Survive long enough, and you'll get a shot at the titular trench run. You'll fly at breakneck speed dodging lasers, towers, and walls before finally dropping the bomb to destroy the Death Star. While it plays differently without the touch controls of the iPhone it's still a solid dogfighting game that's quick and fun to pick up and play.
In order to play the game at the Star Wars site you will need to get your hands on the Unity plug-in for your PC which you can download for free. For gamers who still want it on the go, you can still download it for $5 from iTunes with all the patches and fixes.

So wait, they fixed all of the problems and made it free? Hope this inspires more developers to do the same!
